On empathy

A sponge to soak up all the pain
From the lost in heat and cold,
The lone walker that wears a frown
Strangers but whom your heart beats for.
You’re there when their world came apart
You didn’t see it, No! You felt it
How the wind slaps their skin at night
Through the holes that mars their fabric
When they had just bridges for bed
You carried their fears like a torch
It showed the darkness in the world.

Human sponge made of flesh and blood
You feel sadness when you sigh
When you bleed into another
Until you realise you can’t
Save the world, so you save yourself
