How to start a rumour

call on the midnight,
the birds that only sing at night
tell them what ears must

never hear when the
sun and the cock crow meet at noon
the story would still

find a way to float
from the belly of the ocean
to ears that shouldn’t hear

strike a match, kill it
hide the body, and forget smoke
is how fire screams pain.
