Forlorn wishes

if we decide to
no longer dream, will sleep come not?
will nightmares be scared

of the night, or de-
light themselves of a dreamless twi-
light? well, we just might

ask for a rebirth
of everything lost; the years, the
people, the places.

but no one scratches
the earth to keep clean their fingers;
they wash in water.
