How we overcame

this body moves like
it doesn’t belong to me, us
it is what happens

when blood doesn’t flow
from the heart to the other parts
that need to survive

like gills need fishes
to breathe in water, kiss the sun
we must dive deeper

than the earth permits
our bodies to rest, then we must
fetch life for ourselves.
