To these authors

I have heard tales
tales of how wisdom greys the hair
of men that oiled their words
before they ate them, spat them!
Chinua Achebe, the horn of Africa
words like double-edged swords
a stream with roots in the oceans
there’s so much beauty
in how you swing your words
rhythm!
i only wonder how you’ve lived
guiding, growing, glowing
we’ll all make it out of here too
that’s the highest
our country would be.
