This button panics

On nights that I come home late,
mother will say:
“didn’t you hear,
a strange man with blood
in his mouth was seen
on that road that you keep
late nights on every day”-
she had heard so from a friend,
who heard it from a neighbour,
who heard it from an in-law
who didn’t know what Halloween meant.
Now we have to pray
And avoid that innocent road
Because someone who doesn’t know
Couldn’t keep quiet and not speak
