A red ray of light

good hearts do not wield shields or swords
they hold grief and joy in one palm
putting non above the other
mixing gin and juice and genius

a red ray of light burns through but
good hearts do not wield shields or swords,
so they burn and cut and shatter,
then they build again from the ground.

the red ray of light comes from hearts
that have hardened from years of love;
good hearts do not wield shields or swords
they absorb as much they can

endurance is not always good,
the egg knows better than to smile,
boiling for hours unending, but
good hearts do not wield shields or swords.
