Looking Glass

You do not need a looking glass
to see God. Pass his tests and bleed
not while you lead yourselves and class
to the hourglass of time and deed.

When He seems far, just know He’s close.
And when your foes surround your star,
hold your guitar and play echos
of Calypso’s but not for her.

Raise your head, look into the sky,
but don’t you cry when your eyes hook.
There’ll be a brook, just drink and fly;
just don’t defy the holy book.
