What’s left is a Wrinkle

When we were young we did not know
That a time would come when we’d go
Far away from what’s family
To a place distant from feeling.
We did not know that when we grow,
With life we’d have gone toe to toe.
And what’s left of dirt becomes clean.
That tasks that are tough we’d begin.
That trees we’d plant would stand alone.
And offspring would be on their own.
This is what time can do to us-
A simple math to find the plus
Before the fall that makes us limp.
Now we are old and wish we could
Give more than just our wrinkle.
