Second Guess

1125

The woods opened up their hearts
Just like I thought they would,
And in came a buck
As did a doe too.

They looked at each other
Just like I thought they would,
And the grunt began,
As the bawling too.

Then came the cougar
Just like i thought he would,
A hunter like no other,
Ready to do what he would do.

And the race was to the swift
To catch one out of the two,
And the wheezing grew louder
Just like I thought it would.

Hiss, hiss, snort, snort,
And then the cry for food,
And the deers were getting tired,
Just like I thought they would.

Being a great jumper
Would do you many good,
But being a weak runner
Would only make you easy food.

And with a bite to the throat
Just like I thought he would,
The buck couldn’t survive
What he thought he could.

The woods opened up their hearts
Just like I thought they would,
To say goodbye to the buck
As did the doe too.

Leonell.
