For Father’s Only

Dad I am a grown-up now
And I’m sure you don’t know how,

How I know something is different
About my whole body, the scent,

I’m beginning to smell like a man,
I’m yelling at mum because I can.

She says I remind her so much of you,
The anger, the temper, I got them too.

I still see the mark you left across her face,
I left her another right in the same place.
