If i were my forefathers

The isolation in exile of my forefathers
Makes me wonder if they are still scared
If they help us their oppressors will rise,
Why sip from our gin and bite our kola
If you won’t come to our aid at night
As the road to pass through, as the light?
The air we breathe carries a disgusting odour
We’ve stripped the earth naked repeatedly
To bury those you should be protecting
The hearts of our women bleed dismay
The extent of your negligence may uproot
Every strand of affection in your honour
In the silence of the wind, people still hope
That you will make a sign or say a word
If I were you, I wouldn’t betray the lustre of their eyes.
