State of Emergency

Our father, who art in heaven
Bless us! Bless us! Bless us!
Heaven or hell,
There’s a story to tell
Our lips would do the prayers
Never the heart, nor the will
We pray for things we need not
To fill empty barns that won’t serve
Our empty stomachs.
Our holy hands, we’d raise,
Bend knees and sing with bees
Cursing and causing havoc
There’s an insurgency
That has lived as old as man has
And we aren’t building enough roadblocks
To fight our greed, pride and
Hunger for what belongs to others.
This state requires an emergency.
